CASA MN remains committed to the future of the volunteer program and we are continuing to work diligently with the board and key stakeholders to ensure the program’s existence and success on behalf of children across the state.

As we do, here are some of the latest developments we wanted to share with you:

Former MN Supreme Court Chief Justice, Kathleen Blatz, has joined the GAL Board. She has expressed her support for the volunteer program and previously advocated for authorizing CASA MN to recruit new volunteers.

Justice Anne McKeig who has shown strong support for the volunteer program was appointed the new liaison between the MN Supreme Court and the GAL Board.

Ann Ahlstrom was elected as the new GAL Board Chair. Ms. Ahlstrom emphasized her interest in focusing on the child’s best interest and supporting the inclusion of volunteers and employees in the system.

Alex Miller, Chief Information Officer for the GAL Program, provided recommendations for improving cyber security for volunteers and employees that seek to address concerns that were raised as a potential reason against continuing the volunteer program.

Last week, Victor Walker, 4th District Manager, announced his retirement effective immediately. We will share additional information as we learn more about his replacement.

We are encouraged by the positive direction the MN GAL Board is taking toward sustaining the volunteer program and remain ready to serve as partners on this journey. Additionally, CASA MN continues to engage with state legislators to educate them on the importance of the volunteer program and seek their feedback and support for potential legislation that can help secure the long-term future of the program.

Your support and advocacy have made a significant impact, and we are grateful for your contributions! We invite you to join us in thanking Ann Ahlstrom, the new MN GAL Board Chair, for her dedication to prioritizing the best interests of the child and supporting both employee and volunteer GALs.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to advocating for abused and neglected children in our community.

Warm regards,
